ANGELS PIERCE LADY HIGHLANDERS Holy Angels routed West Milford 2-0-7 in a girls’ fencing dual match on Thursday (February 4). In the epee, Christine Byrne, Catherine Morris and Giana Puzzo each posted 2-0 records while Jackie Heath and Melissa St. Angelo were unbeaten at 2-0 in the foil discipline. Jennifer Navatto and Erica Persson were both 2-0 in the sabre competition as the Angels upped their overall record to 12-1. Leading 28-27 at the intermission, the Angels went on a 38-19 run in the second half to toppled Mahwah 66-46 in the Bergen County Girls Basketball Tournament on Sunday (February 7). Melanie Lockett tallied a team-high 18 points and Jaclyn Jerkovich tickled the twine with 17 while Jillian Crawford pumped 13 through the iron and Nicole Pope netted 10 as a quartet of Angels reached double figures. Casey Perez sprinted to a runnerup finish in the 55-meter dash at the Ridgewood Winter Games 2 held on the campus of Rockland Community College in New York on Wednesday (January 20). Perez raced across the finish line in 7.4 seconds, the same clocking recorded by the winner. Her teammate Kelsey Broomfield sprinted to a third place effort in the 300-meter dash, producing a time of 40.1. Holy Angels blanked Northern Highlands 5-0 in a NBIAL girls’ bowling match. Morgan Buckley posted the high game of 207 for the Angels.
